The Intellectual Property Rights are the backbone of knowledge economy and is a hidden tool in the development of national economy of a country. It has played a pivotal role in reshaping the business and has transformed the outlook of a business into a viable commercial entity. All the IPR components have their own integrity and importance in making the brand renowned.
I believe the stronger the awareness about the IPRs, stronger would-be the enforcement of IPRs. It is very important that IP should be the top priority of the government. A stringent IP policy is the need of the hour, which would attract FDI and incentivize the investors. At this critical juncture of unstable economy, strong IP policy merits consideration at the Government level.
I would also urge the need of developing institutional linkages between the various organization, especially the organization having similar and overlapping role, like SECP, CCP, DRAP, PEMRA and PTA. This would provide synergic effect to the functionality and bringing them at one page on the role of IPR.
Secondly a close working with academia, advocating the development R&D, innovation & invention, filing patents, incubation and commercialization thus contributing to the economic activity. It would not be to say that the researchers must be given due incentive to keep their interests alive by paying them the royalty share through commercialization.
A strengthened outreach and media program would be an added advantage to make public aware about the menace of piracy and counterfeiting, this would keep the consumer safe from counterfeited products and spurious drugs.
My best wishes to the IP alert bulletin magazine team for their efforts in promoting the Intellectual Property Rights.
